Last week was a week of history-making for Pterodromae Cahow. The Storm Petrels managed to win, for the first time in its history, a race for four consecutive seasons. After Bernd Burtscher had shown Bermuda the way back in S33, Keegan Pinson grabbed his third victory in as much seasons in the Race to the Wall last Thursday. To add to his already-impressive resumé, Pinson followed up that victory by winning the first ever hill race in Ceuta, setting another record for Pterodromae Cahow. With three wins already under his belt tit appears that there is just no stopping Keegan Pinson in hill races this season.
During the press conference following Pinson's win in Ceuta, manager Pythios was expected to comment on the performances of his 26-year-old captain, but he surprised everyone by focusing on a different race: a sprint race in Qatar attended largely by the Storm Petrels' B-team. Melville Morefield equalled his personal best result by finishing fourth there, which seems like a good but unremarkable result. Pythios disagreed, however, emphasizing Morefield's steady form over the past few months:
"Our team is not strong enough to support Melville in sprint races like we can support Keegan or Sidney in hill races. We can make the hills as tough as possible to wear out pure sprinters, but when there are few hills to speak of, Melville is on his own. That's what makes it all the more impressive that Melville consistently scores points for us. His performances have shown that he is ready to be a captain, and as a captain he shall have his own team."
So it seems that, even though Keegan Pinson's performances may have been record-setting, this week may turn out to be momentous for Pterodromae Cahow for an entirely different reason.
